Rapid Redesigning for Clarity and Engagement
ROLE/TIMEFRAME
Product Designer
A high-pressure 60-minute design sprint.
PROCESS/METHODS
Research, Ideation & Delivery: Discover assets, build a solution, rapid prototyping and usability testing
TOOLS
Photoshop for initial asset preparation and manipulation.
Figma for designing and prototyping the digital instruction manual.
INNOVATION AND INTERACTION
The sprint culminated in the creation of a fully interactive digital prototype, showcasing the redesigned instruction manual across several key app screens. This rapid prototyping phase was critical for ensuring usability and a seamless user experience. The prototype suggested a future where Planet Bike could offer an innovative digital manual directly through app stores, enhancing customer support and engagement.
Upon reviewing the task, two primary considerations came to mind:
The feasibility of locating a high-resolution version of the logo.
The availability of a digital rendition of the instructions, devoid of the creases typical of a scanned copy.
Within a mere five minutes, I successfully acquired the logo:
And a digital PDF of the current instruction manual.
My initial objective was to efficiently import the PDF into Photoshop, segmenting the instructions into digestible, puzzle-like images for ease of handling. Given the critical time constraints, I opted against retyping the text to conserve precious minutes. After organizing these segmented images into a dedicated folder on my desktop, I transitioned to Figma to kickstart the project, focusing on the creation of key app screens:

IMPACT AND LESSONS LEARNED
This exhilarating design sprint was not only a test of skill and speed but also a profound learning experience. Key takeaways include:
The unexpected joy and satisfaction derived from completing a design challenge under tight time constraints.
The potential for such sprints to foster creativity, efficiency, and the practical application of design skills in a real-world context.
The idea to compile a list of future design sprint challenges, turning each into an opportunity for growth and case study development.
